Welcome. Thank you for your interest in what LJS Psychiatry offers. You or someone you know may be suffering from emotional distress and seeking relief.  My approach facilitates an environment where people are able to communicate their thoughts, feelings, and wishes in a setting that is inherently collaborative, caring, and non-judgemental.  A strong therapeutic relationship (doctor-patient relationship) is a powerful means of treatment and developing this alliance is something that I hold to be of the utmost importance.

I provide psychodynamically oriented psychotherapy.  Through this approach, we will seek to understand the important ways through which your past experiences influence how you feel in the here and now.   Patterns of behavior develop for good reason.  They serve as a means to help us cope with life circumstances.  However, not infrequently, as we move beyond these circumstances we often find that those behaviors that once served us well, now create their own hurdles.  In treatment, we will examine these hurdles through the encouragement of self exploration.  A deepening of self-awareness promotes continued personal growth and relief from emotional distress.

I also provide careful expert medication management that is informed by our therapeutic work together.   When necessary, I may recommend and prescribe medication.  Prescribing medication is always done in a collaborative manner.  I only prescribe medication for patients that I currently see for weekly psychotherapy.

My areas of speciality include the following:

  • Depression and depressive disorders including bipolar depression

  • Anxiety disorders

  • Feelings of worthlessness, struggles with self-esteem or self-confidence

  • Relationship struggles

  • Coping and living with cancer or other major medical illnesses

  • Grief and loss

  • Existential concerns
